My Lords of our Emperors Holy Inquisition, My Lord Judicar, distinguished Members of the Chorum, ladies and gentlemen, members of the press,
We have come here today to honour the courage of a few very brave soldiers. Theirs is a very special kind of courage — the unconditional heroism of faith and service to the Imperium and her safeguard against her myriad of enemies from within and beyond. The conduct of these Agents of the Throne reflects, I believe, the role Sinophia itself must play on every battlefield of freedom.
In the face of death, in the fury of ambush, they risked their lives that other men might live. Wounded and maimed, they toiled through the darker sides of our fair city, through unceasing enemy fire to bring others of his fellow men to safety.
In that dark, dangerous tower, with the enemy on all sides, they sustained the faith that our fighting men place in the righteous authority of the Imperium—their constant comrade, always ready to back their courage and to lead them to salvation.
Today, in this quiet Sinophian garden, we acknowledge our great debt to these Agents of the Emperor for their great dedication in that savage action.
It is a terrible truth that suffering is so often the price of freedom. But freedom is indivisible. To protect it in here in Sinophia, is to protect it on distant Terra.
The willingness of these righteous servants of our God Emperor to sacrifice all for freedom indicates, as nothing else could, the willingness of our Imperium to sacrifice, to stand, and to persist in freedom’s cause.
As we salute the valour of these soldiers, we salute the best in the Imperiums tradition.
Just as they sustained those who fought for freedom in Sinophia Magna, so shall we.
Just as they bound up their wounds, so shall we.
Just as they brought the Emperors divine wrath and vengeance upon those who would subjugate his subjects, so shall we of Sinophia persecute his enemies.
Sinophia, too, stands behind the fighter who is struggling to prevent subjugation; Sinophia is willing to make sacrifices in order that all men may know the joy of peace and security; Sinophia, too, is dedicated to the highest of all principles—that of serving mankind in its endless struggle toward a better, a fuller life of dignity, devoid of the tyranny of the heretic, the daemon and the alien.
Agents of the Throne, with this medal comes Sinophia’s enduring gratitude. We thank you for what you’ve done. You stand as a symbol—reminding all of us of our continuing responsibilities as citizens and our continuing obligations as an Imperial vassal. If we are worthy of your sacrifice and the sacrifice of those of your comrades, then we shall never forget them.
